American Stereotypes

Part Four

Stereotype
Americans don't understand any culture but their own.

" Americans don't speak English, they speak American." - Daniel the Kiwi from Auckland

People in other parts of the world are separated from one another by borders which are generally defined by rivers and mountains, across which the inhabitants often speak very different languages. Americans are also separated by borders, which are generally defined by road signs and license plates of different colors, across which the inhabitants speak exactly the same language.

It is a simple fact that with the notable exceptions of the Chinese and the Russians, other peoples have NO IDEA AT ALL how big America is. This is not their fault. When they go 300 miles in any direction they are usually in a new country. Naturally they tend to think it is the same way here. Most of them cannot comprehend that it is possible to travel 1000 miles and not even be halfway across ones own country. They sometimes think it is possible to drive from California to New York in less than a day. Most countries in Europe are smaller than California.
