| Shortly after arriving
in Buffalo I was told that The Albrightknox Art
Gallery had a world class
collection
of modern art.
Not being
a fan of "modern" art I was not that interested.
It was not until after I heard the names Van Gogh, Renoir,
Monet, Pissarro, Picasso, and Warhol that my intererest
was piqued. Now I am glad I went. The museum is neither
stuffy nor overwhelming. I was able to make a casually
interested perusal of the collection in about 2 hours,
and I wasn't even tired afterwards. At the same time
I saw some fabulous and even famous art. They even have
a small room made entirely out of mirrors (including
the furniture) which made me feel like I was in
the Twilight Zone. |

| Their contemporary collection included
some morbidly fascinating works which I came to call
hair monsters. They were really bizarre mounds and
vines made entirely of what appeared to be horse
hair and they seemed to be swallowing up some unlucky
birds. The hair monsters were accompanied by their
near-cousins the flower monsters. I'd never seen
anything like it before and I loved it! |

Here we have the lovely

| Here we have an example of nearly perfect
camofluage. As I said in the intro, even the furniture
is made of mirrors. Can you see the table and chair? |

Here's a challenging question to seperate
the dummies from the scarecrows. Which one is the
real Hooliator, and which is the reflection? |
