Kensington Market

Tim Hortons is the Krispy Kreme of Canada. If there were ever a coffee company which symbolizes pure evil, it would be Starb...err, sorry, habit. It would be Tim Hortons. The worst coffee I ever had was at Tim Hortons. Kensington Market symbolizes everything that Tim Hortons does not, wholesome food, real people, reasonable prices, and excellent coffee. I had the two best cappuccinos of my life at Kensington Market in Toronto.

Kensington Market is a colorful little market area about 15 minutes by foot from downtown where you can buy bulk fresh roasted coffee beans, bulk fresh baked bread, bulk fresh roasted nuts, inexpensive work boots, clothes and tools, whole foods, and some of the best espresso drinks anywhere.

super 88
This Super 88 has nothing to do with Kensington, except that it seems to live there and I liked it.

Hooliator loves coffee and is likely to judge a country by it's cappuccino. Italy was #1 until I went to Toronto. The new #2 cappuccino is at the place that sells the nuts at Kensington Market. The best cappuccino I have ever had was at Ideal Coffee, pictured to the left. Italy has fallen to #3. France is still last, because some things just never change.

Not only do they use a real Italian espresso press, they have some of the coolest furnture of any coffee house I've ever been to. I had my laptop set up on an old sit down Galaga arcade game.
Ideal Coffee

ideal coffee
Ideal Coffee roasts their own beans, uses a real Italian espresso press, has comfortable furniture, a laid back crowd who will actually talk to strangers, and for their iced drinks instead of ice cubes, they use coffee cubes! This place is what a coffee house ought to be. It actually is ideal. And the coffee is really good.
