Exploring Rome part I

Good guys always wear white

Between Paris and Rome I can make the following comparison: from a tourists perspective Rome is the exact opposite of Paris. In Paris the weather is lousy, in Rome it's lovely. In Paris the public transport is great, and in Rome it's so-so. Parisiens are stuck-up, Romans are friendly.

One of the biggest differences between Paris and Rome is that coffee in Paris is expensive, and comes in a range of qualities from bad to really bad; in Rome coffee is cheap and comes in a range of qualities from good to really good.

Mouse over the cappuccino and find out where to get a great cup of joe at a low price from friendly people, under a blue sky with a great view.

This little place can be found on the hill nearest to the vatican. Find the stairs near the bridge, up the stairs, to the left, around the bend and in the door.

I really don't know what this place is. It was built
(I think)
by Mussolini. If you don't know who he is then get some vaseline, rub it all over your neck and head and pull (don't push !). Then learn to read, and then pay attention in school.

One of the more interesting things about Italy is that the worldwide anti-smoking hysteria has not taken hold. This is a cigarette vending machine on a Roman sidewalk. Price for a pack of smokes in Rome? €3.40

I expect the Italians will join the rank and file secondhandsmokaphobes when donkeys fly.

Luckily, after the cigarettes get done with you, the Vatican is nearby so you can purchase a few indulgences, absolvences, and more earthly souvenirs.

This is me in my Davis Period Fencing shirt. The design was inspired by (read: stolen from) the 16th century Italian fencing master Ridolfo Capo Ferro.
