This is a private residence now. But
in June of 1944 it became the field headquarters
for Allied forces in France during the invasion of
Normandy. |

Despite the well deserved
French reputation for ingratitude, I found the people
of Normandy to
be
both gracious
and grateful. Monuments to US military personnel
who gave their lives to liberate France from Nazi
tyranny
abound. Most of them are well maintained. Some like
this one, are absolutely stunning to behold. |
