Let me start by saying that one
of the best things about the view from my little apartment,
is that 2 of the 3 cool
things I can see from my window are within walking distance.
This is particularly important because in Paris, if it
is cool, it is surrounded by other cool stuff.
For instance,
while working on this page, I decided to take a little
break and walk over to Place de la Republique, which
I can see
from my window. While there, I happened across a sidewalk
vendor selling handmade 'bonbons'. So I picked up some real licorice.
This ain't twizzlers baby!
Of course I can also see the
ultra-famous Sacre Couer. But you can't get real
licorice there, so who really cares?
On the other side, you can see Place de la Bastille. They
call it that because for 500 years the notorious Bastille
prison/fortress stood there. But about 200 years ago it was
torn down and replaced by bars and discos. There is a really
cool column there too, which commemorates a bunch of people
who went and got themselves shot by the French Army in 1830
because they wanted to vote more than they wanted to not
get shot.
Of course that's not the best view you can
have from my window. Look down...
Click on the images below to see short movies I took out
of my window.
I was trying to sleep when I heard a noise
outside my window. I looked out and there were about
a million cyclists riding in a giant horde down one of
my streets. (10MB)
Once the horde of bikes passed, I went
about falling asleep. And just as I started to doze off,
there was a sound like a river passing by, but it wasn't
a river, well okay it was a river: a river of rollerbladers...
