Modern French Music by Genre

France does the world's best wine, cheese, and trains. The world music market is dominated by the USA. This makes Hooliator sad because France has a lively and original music scene. I spend at least two hours per week in OCD on the Rue St. Antoine listening to French CDs.

Of course it could be said that there are loads of crap coming out of the French music scene, and it would not be untrue. But that can be said about ANY music scene! Hooliator
(once again) has spared you the pain of false discovery by digging through miles of dirt to find the vein of gold and bring it to you.

Here you will find a
(nearly) complete list of French CDs owned by Hooliator along with my thoughts on said CDs. Among his collection Hooliator has detected several genres of French music: Pop, Alternative, Ballads (think Sinatra), and Difficult to Classify (D2C)

Of these: D2C is the most exciting genre for its variety and originality. Many of my favorite artists fall into this category.

If you want to learn about French music then you may also want to own lots of French CDs just like I do. For that you can go to Fnac, OCD, or loads of little music boutiques throughout France. You can also click on one of the links and download it from iTunes or you you can click on one of the other links and get a disc. CD Universe is generally cheaper, but Amazon has a larger selection.

Rating system:
$ to $$$$$.
More Money = More Love.

Artists you will find listed on my site include Benjamin Biolay, Miro, Rit, Daisybox, Melk, Lynda Lemay and others.
