Autour de Lucie

L'échappée belle
This is French Indie. I gotta be in the mood for it and when I am I like it well enough. If indie is your thing then this may be too.

Autour de Lucie
Immobile
This is not so very different than the other album.

Do you remember the Mighty Lemon Drops?
This is that kind of music. Only in French.

Indochine

Diagnostic(2005)
Sort of French indie, grungy, rocky, not really sure. Everyone I've played it for has loved it. The vocals are kind of subdued and aery. Good luck finding it.

Indochine
Indochine can best described as Defrog Mode.
But with a little less precision than their British counterparts.

Maïdi Roth
Maidi Roth has been a favorite of mine since 2002
French alternative rock. Distinctive and angsty (is that a word?) Good in concert.

Polaroïd (2002)
Ironic and critical. Hard edged, yet not hard. One of my favorite albums ever. Hard to get. Mine got stolen (stupid Hooliator left it in his car overnight). I got a new one at Fnac.

Rating: $$$$$

Favorite songs:
Silence, Amnésie, l'Art et la Manière

Maidi Roth
Horizon Vertical (2005)
Definitely not similar to Polaroid. Hard edged, angry, a rough sex album.

There are two versions, one comes with a DVD and the other just the CD. The DVD may not work in US players but will play on computers. The videos are kinda cool.

[Melk]
Don't know much about Melk. Seems
to be a sort of retro-alternative group from a small label.

Super 8
Meloncholy and hypnotic, mixture of French and English, slight Björk influence detected, also a little early 80's Bowie.

I bought this as a gift for Jessica the Goth-Girl. But I'll buy one for me too. (if I can find another one)

Miro

Miro is the only artist in my collection to make it into TWO
categories. This is because Miro is frakkin crazy. He makes
music totally without regard for precedent or the expectations
of others. If you like the Chili Peppers, Green Day, Beasie Boys,
Jazz, Rock n Roll, or funky music in general you will LOVE Miro.

He may be blind, but he's definitely not tone deaf.

En Plein Vol (2003)
Funky, groovy, latiny, jazzy, and orange, very very orange. It's 60's, it's 90's. It's hard to describe. I think it would take a musician to properly describe it. I can detect influences from Siouxie and the Banshee's, Depeche Mode, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. This album defintiely has an alternative feel. I had a hard time deciding whether to put it here or under D2C where his other albums are.

Favorite Songs:
Derrière la Mountain, Normalement, Holy Wood

Stéphanie Lapointe
Stéphanie Lapointe was the winner of
Star Academy (Frog Idol) I think she's Canadian. (GO GO Canswedia!)

  Stéphanie Lapointe (2005)
Dreamy and a little bit derang... errr, meloncholy. It's good for a sad-mood day.
