There I was, walking down the street
in a wealthy district when I noticed an open gate and some
garbage strewn stairs leading down to some stagnant water
standing before an open door...
Once at the bottom of the stairs I perceived
a second open door. Behind which I found a hijacked cash
box containing some paper receipts and a few pennies. ..
Being completely broke at this point
I pocketed the pennies and then peeked behind the first
door, which as it turned out was the basement entrance
to this house. The house was a wreck, with bare plaster
walls and cement floors, the stench of decay hung thickly
in the air...
<~~~~~~~~~~~
Being not only (mostly) pennyless, but also of an adventuring spirit, I stepped
inside...
The stairs creaked under my weight
and I felt I was the undivided attention of some ghastly
thing or other...
Fear took hold of me as I crept up
the stairs, I opened my small dull knife in case I were
attacked from above or below. I kept my eyes on the landing
at the top of the stairs. I was alone, and inside these
walls nobody would hear my cry for help.....
Okay I didn't get eaten by zombies
or ghoulish beasts (obviously), but it was REALLLLY scary
being in there like that, how did I know there was nobody
hiding around the next corner with an iron bar????
It was just me, all alone, floorboards
creaking, and having to watch every step to avoid plummetting
to my DEATH!!!
This room was in really good repair
compared to the rest of that trap ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
I feel now that I must level a criticism.
Whoever did the LAST remodeling job BLUNDERED. Just look
at that beautiful classic tilework covered up by that bland
CRAP.
To the owner of the house, please restore
the original tile. It is really quite nice. <~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Making one's way onto the fire
escape allows a lovely view STRAIGHT DOWN... I imagine
that during the English winter, the temptation to
jump must be... well, it just must be.
But at least one of the
neighbors has a nice back court...
Did I say at least? I meant at most...
Mind you my parents were not
present to warn me of the dangers of the HAUNTED
MANSION. And in any event I first noticed these from
inside the house. I didn't actually read them until after
I got back outside into the world of the living. Would I
have heeded the signs ??? HA HA I'm not going to tellllll
youuuuu.... :^p
