The American Male

does not fit into the British Female

To make this work, one must bring an adapter, or else buy one there. You see, Brits work on 220 Volts and we Yanks work on 110 Volts. Therefore if you wish to play with your toy(s) while there you must use an adapter. Without one you can't plug in anywhere.

Many of today’s expensive toys come with neat little things called transformers. That’s the little black box near the end or middle of the power cord on your toy. If your toy does not have a transformer, then to use your toy in England you must buy one, or else say ba-bye to your toy.

I bought an adapter in the States and when I got to London, OOPS, it didn’t work. So I had to buy one there, costing me even MORE money. The one I bought there worked so I kept it.

When in doubt buy it there. Mine cost me 6 limeybucks, expensive, but as I said it works. Notice how one side has the big fat awkward limey plugs and the other side gracefully takes pugs from all around the world .

(it's up to you to figure out how to see the other picture)

This one has a warning on it which reads "Does not earth with side contact earth plugs". This would be an example of what happens when one mixes a non-native speaker, a language dictionary, and stupidity.

Just after my return I saw a whole kit from APC which has adapters for the whole planet, and they were the right ones.

There is another set that comes in a blue box from a different company, that's the one I bought and had to throw away...

There is a nice little hardware store right next to the Caffé Nero on Brewer Street. (the one you can see from the hotel) where they sell all sorts of useful stuff, like power adapters, knives, and luggage locks. The luggage locks are generally of better quality than what I found commonly for sale in the States.

Don’t be afraid to ask the proprietor about the quality of the products. I tested him: when I asked him about a lock which I KNEW was crap ( I had one) he turned me toward a different lock, which I bought and it is excellent. I think it was about 4 limeybucks. It came from a German company called "Abus." The picture links to their web site.
